Shamans is the portrait of 4 artists living and working in London, UK. Angel Ito, originally from Puerto Rico, is a dancer, performer, actor and painter, that has spent many years living in the UK. Jonathan Armour is a digital artist and performer, whose specialty is virtual reality. Stefan Djokic is an experimental fashion designer finishing his MA at St Martin’s College. Josh Quinton is a model, DJ and fashion icon that works from time to time at the Retro Bar, where we met. Each one represents their own very unique style. This project was created with the XBox Kinect, volumetric sensor, and code written in Processing 3.0. The sound is composed and produced by Antenor Ferreira, experimental musician and percussionist from Brazil. The still frames that compose the video are captured with the volumetric sensor, using custom code in Java, then compiled in After Effects, for a final edition in Premiere, in order to control the speed and the layering. There are no post-production filters to generate the visuals, just luma keying and traditional editing techniques.
Santiago Echeverry is a Colombian-American New Media Artist and Professor, with a background in Video Art, Web Design, and Performance Art. He started his artistic career in 1989, participating since then in some of the most important festivals in the world, and he is considered a pioneer in the field of Net Art and Queer Filmmaking in Latin America. In 1992, he graduated top of the inaugural class of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia’s Film and Television School. In 1995, he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Grant to earn his Master's degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU. He started his academic career in 1993, and is currently an Associate Professor and co-founder of the recently created Film, Animation and New Media Department at the University of Tampa. His research is focused on volumetric imaging, interactive web development, and creative coding.
