Sea`s Lion is the newest experimental film made by LAdraK, and consists in a performance triggered by the characters of Antônio Conselheiro, and a Woman-Spirit that accompanies him in his hike through the Brazilian Wester. The short film revisits the symbolic war that this poor man hold on with the female figure at different times in his life, from his youth, until his messianic pilgrimage.
The woman embodies passion, madness and death in her red robes. Through improvisation and dramatic power engaged by the actors, this film is constructed by the body scores and the rhythm of each sequence; in fact, the text and acting guidelines are just devices through which the characters interact with the space and the scene objects.
The film was shot during the drought that hit the Brazilian northeastern hinterland between 2011 and 2013. With the scarcity of rain, the remaining ruins of the Canudos War, which were submerged in the waters of the Cocorobó Reservoir, built by the military dictatorship in the 1960s, reappear as scenarios and characters in the plot.
Cemeteries and churches, tombstones and trenches, unveiled by the decrease in the volume of water, make the team's immersions in the Canudos War atmosphere, and also transform this movie in a fictionalized documentation of the archaeological site submerged intentionally by the militaries.
What it is emptier? The silence or the lie?
